Big Change IS COMING! The Last Pennies Will Be Minted Early Next Year! The U.S. Treasury just announced a big change TO America's change.  They'll officially stop making new PENNIES soon.

According to Fox Business / CNN the U.S. Treasury ordered its last round of pennies.  They'll roll off the production line early next year, and then they'll stop making them.

Most of us didn't think this would really happen when we heard about it a few months ago.  But it looks like it will in fact happen.

President Trump back in February he had said that he'd ordered the U.S. Mint to stop making them all together.  Every penny costs almost four cents to manufacture, so it's supposed to save money in the long run... an estimated $56 million a year.

The Treasury said it just placed its final order of blanks this month.  And after those are minted, they're not making any more of the little copper coins. The very last of the pennies are set to roll off the production line early 2026.

It's sad news for penny enthusiasts, especially since today happens to be Lucky Penny Day! It is always celebrated on May 23rd. Next year the celebration might look a little different. More of in memory of celebration.

There has been a push to ditch them for a long time.  But not everyone thinks it's a great idea, partly because nickels are not cheap either.

Turns out they cost about 14 cents to make, and we might need more if stores start rounding up to five-cent increments. Don't worry none of this means pennies are going away anytime soon, by the way.

Around 114 BILLION are in circulation, and you'll still be able to use them.

The government makes more each year, well at least they did, because so many pennies drop out of circulation.  We toss them in change jars, leave them in their center console, bottom of our bags, dropped on the ground and never picked up, or just throw them out.
