Billings, Did You Wake Up to Flooding? Please Don’t Call 911
Many areas in and around Billings woke up to standing water Saturday morning. Reports from residents on social media are indicating anywhere from 3 - 5" has fallen around Yellowstone County since the heavy rain began falling on Thursday.
Please don't call 911 if you have water in your basement.
We received a press release from Victoria Hill, City of Billings Public Information Officer who said emergency phone lines are being flooded (sorry!) with callers regarding the heavy rain. The City is asking that residents reserve the 911 system for actual emergencies, where someone's life is in danger.
- Do not call to report your storm drain is clogged. City Maintenance is working as quickly as possible.
- Do not call to report a vehicle stalled in a puddle. Again, this is something the City cannot help with. Call a tow truck instead.
- Do not call to complain about water in your basement. Call your insurance agent, call a disaster restoration company, or call a rental place to get a pump.
It's not over yet.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted throughout the weekend, so it doesn't look like we'll start drying out until Monday. If you have flood photos, please share! Email: Michael@BillingsMix.com
