Lady Falcons: Skyview Searching to Soar

After going undefeated and winning the state title last year, the Skyview Lady Falcons will look to repeat last year’s performance on the hardwood. With 5 seniors on the squad and a bench full of juniors, Skyview seems to be the preseason favorite in the Eastern AA. Taking it one game at a time, defensive-minded coach Randy Chase is ready for the new campaign of the 2025 season.

With the graduation of Breanna Williams, Kenzie Strachan, and Angel Martin the Lady Falcons will be searching for their offensive presence. However, Coach Chase doesn’t seem worried about new holes opening up. “I’m excited with what we got. The girls have high energy and are figuring out their roles.”

Those roles are largely unknown, as the three seniors were a big part of the Lady Falcons offense in the previous seasons. Coach Chase expects the road bumps, however, and is prepared for what this year will look like. “It’s a team game. The idea is to grow and become better as the season progresses, not to start out at your best.”

Seniors Smart and Salverson are key players this year.

With All-Tournament seniors Rae Smart and Taryn Salverson leading the way, Coach Chase is thrilled to be able to work his magic on the defensive end. “We track turnovers, we track deflections. Our goal is to create as many shot clock violations as we can.” While analytics don’t mean as much in high school as they do in the NBA, being able to point at deflections and say “That’s a good thing” can add to the effort that can sometimes be lacking on the defensive end.

Both Coach Chase and Coach Bulluck of the boys see the program as one, not the ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ team. “It’s the basketball program. There’s things we do similar and differently, we encourage the kids to support each other.”

The boys are on a title hunt of their own after a disappointing season last year, which saw them sitting on the sidelines cheering for the girls at state. Regardless of how the season ends, Skyview High School will be bouncing on game night.
