‘Huckleberry’ Wants to be YOUR Huckleberry for Life

Billings' featured Wet Nose Wednesday Pet is named Huckleberry.

Each week we feature a different adoptable pet from Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, and each week we fall in dog love again. Today, we met Huckleberry and we think he really wants to be YOUR Huckleberry.

Huckleberry is a four-year-old hound mix.

Huckleberry will melt your heart with his expressive eyebrows and big floppy hound dog ears. He's very affectionate and loves giving dog hugs. Derek Wulf, Humane Outreach Coordinator at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter said Huckleberry arrived at the shelter a few weeks ago as a stray.

Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter offers the service daily (no appointment necessary) for just $20 for dogs and cats. The American Veterinary Medical Association notes that 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen annually in the United States. Sadly, only 22% of the dogs that end up in shelters without microchips are reunited with their owner. The return rate jumps to over 50% when a dog is microchipped.

Stop and smell the roses with your new buddy Huckleberry.

Huckleberry is a solid dog, weighing roughly 80 pounds and he appears to prefer food as a primary training motivator instead of toys. He does great on a leash, especially if you're not in a hurry. The hound dog in his blood means he likes to stop and sniff everything. While some hound breeds can be excessive barkers, Derek said that Huckleberry doesn't appear to be overly vocal.
