Meet Billings' featured Wet Nose Wednesday Pet, Yolo.

Yolo is an energetic, two-year-old Red Heeler mix who recently arrived at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter as a stray. The exuberant pup burst through our studio doors this morning for his on-air meet and greet.

The medium-sized dog weighs around 40 pounds and he loves car rides, according to Derek Wulf, Humane Outreach Coordinator at YVAS. Yolo strikes us as the kind of dog that would love to accompany his human on any adventure.

Keep this sweet boy busy with toys and attention.

Heelers are working dogs by nature, which means Yolo will probably do best with plenty of activity and exercise. Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter writes,

Despite his youthful exuberance, Yolo is a gentle soul with a heart as big as his appetite for adventure.

What's it like adopting a pet at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter?

Last week my family adopted a new puppy from the shelter. He's a tiny 10-week-old French Bulldog/Chihuahua (and probably something else) mix that we've named Winston.

Arrive early if you have your heart set on a certain dog.

Puppies usually get adopted quickly, so we arrived early to get the first spot in line around 11 am. The shelter opens at noon. To save time, print and fill out the adoption application paperwork HERE.

The adoption process is easy.

First, turn in your application. Then pick out a dog, cat, rabbit, whatever. You can spend a little time getting acquainted with your new pet if you choose. If you have other pets, bring them with and they'll allow a meet-up to see if everyone gets along. You do need to present a valid ID to adopt and you must be at least 18.

After paying the adoption fee, you'll leave with your new best friend, along with a packet full of information about the animal you've adopted (medical history, shot schedule, health and care tips, and more).
