Friday Stabbing Incident in Billings Results in Homicide. Suspect in Custody
A residential area in Billings became the scene of a fatal stabbing on the evening of June 28, 2024. Responding to an urgent call at 9:34 p.m., the Billings Police Department and the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the 800 block of Bench Boulevard.
Deputies from the Sheriff's Office arrived first to the sounds of a violent disturbance within the home. As they made their way inside, one deputy discharged their weapon at the suspect, although the suspect emerged from the encounter with minor injuries.
A chaotic scene.
The situation escalated as additional officers and deputies arrived. The suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Robert Mascarena, initially attempted to barricade himself in a room before trying to escape through a window. However, officers stationed outside quickly apprehended him.
Inside the residence, authorities discovered a 55-year-old female victim. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Mascarena was subsequently arrested and charged with deliberate homicide and is now in custody at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility.
The Billings Police Department expressed gratitude for the swift assistance from the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, the Billings Fire Department, and AMR during this harrowing incident.
