Food poisoning is no joke.

Salmonella can cause serious health issues. At a minimum, you can expect to spend a day or two with diarrhea and an upset stomach. In severe cases, you might end up with a trip to the emergency room. The FDA says that for the elderly or frail, children, or those with weakened immune systems, Salmonella can be deadly. If you're generally healthy, the symptoms can still be nasty. The write,

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Yeah, no thanks. We're going to check those granola bars in our pantry.
