Carbon County Residents: Here’s How to Order Affordable Trees
Perhaps it's a middle-aged thing, but I've recently become more infatuated with planting trees. Maybe because I'm at the point where I realize if I had stuck more trees in my yard when my kids were babies, I would be enjoying lots of beautiful, tall, shade trees now.
Instead, I have a couple of spindly young trees that won't be mature until I'm in a nursing home."The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now," says the famous quote. Carbon County residents, you have an opportunity to plant trees (and other plants) at budget-friendly prices this spring.
The Carbon Conservation District Tree & Shrub Sale is taking orders now through April 15th. The sale supports landowners, agricultural producers, and community members in implementing conservation practices that protect soil and water resources while strengthening working lands.
There are over 60 different varieties of Montana-tested trees available for sale.
All of the trees on the sale are grown on tree farms in Montana or surrounding states. Here's the best part: You can buy these Montana-hardy trees for as little as $2 per sapling. Note: the small seedlings are sold in flats of 24 (minimum purchase).
The sale also offers a variety of garden plants (most priced at $10/quart for a bundle of 3), including Bleeding Hearts, Coneflowers, Hostas, Daylilies, and rhubarb, along with Riverbank Grapevines and seven different varieties of native grasses.
A 50% deposit is required on tree and plant orders, cash or check only. The Carbon Conservation District notes, "all plants are sold in a dormant condition and are field-harvested shortly before delivery. Customers must pick up orders promptly once delivery notification is provided."
For more info, or to pay your order deposit, stop by the Carbon Conservation District office at 606 W. Front St. in Joliet. Contact the office at Carboncd@macdnet.org or call (406) 962-3641 ext. 105.
