Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office Removes 42 Dogs from Neglect Case
It's been a difficult month for dogs in our area, with the disastrous incinerator incident at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter that has displaced all pets and workers to a temporary facility, and now this... dozens of neglected/abused dogs in Yellowstone County were recently seized by authorities.
According to their post on social media, the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant last Thursday, September 25, at a residence on 12 Mile Road near Shepherd in connection with an investigation into alleged animal neglect and cruelty.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a veterinarian accompanied deputies during the operation and immediately assessed the animals on-site. Due to the condition of the dogs and ongoing health concerns, officials determined it was in the animals’ best interest to remove them from the property so they could receive proper medical attention.
A sad situation for the puppies and adult dogs.
In total, 42 dogs were seized, including Newfoundlands and Australian Shepherds ranging in age from puppies to adults. The animals were transported to a secure location where additional veterinary staff were prepared to provide treatment. Five of the dogs required advanced care and were transferred to a local veterinary hospital.
All of the seized dogs remain under the care of the Sheriff’s Office while the investigation continues. Reports will be forwarded to the Yellowstone County Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.

Authorities noted that members of the community have already offered assistance, but they ask that help come in the form of monetary donations rather than food. The Sheriff’s Office explained that consistent feeding is essential to the dogs’ recovery, and donations will go directly toward veterinary care and treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office says more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
