Boar's Head Announces Plant Closure Over Listeria Break Out
From Boar's Head:
From a product recall update:
"First and foremost, our investigation has identified the root cause of the contamination as a specific production process that only existed at the Jarratt facility and was used only for liverwurst. With this discovery, we have decided to permanently discontinue liverwurst."
Boar's Head continues:
"Given the seriousness of the outbreak, and the fact that it originated at Jarratt, we have made the difficult decision to indefinitely close this location, which has not been operational since late July 2024."

Update, 8/9/24, 3 Now Dead and 43 People Sickened
According to the Associated Press, 3 people have now died due to the Listeria food poisoning outbreak with Boar's Head Meats.
Boar's Head is now facing lawsuits in both Missouri and New York linked to the outbreak.

Possible Listeria Contamination In Boar's Head Meats
USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced that Boar's Head Provisions Co. Inc, has issued a recall on Boar's Head ready-to-eat- meat and poultry products.
This is an expansion of a recall from July 26, 2024 on their deli meats that may contain Listeria monocytogenes.
Flathead Valley E coli Outbreak: Stay in the know
The expansion of the recall includes 71 Boar's Head and Old Country products produced from May 10, 2024 through July 29, 2024. Check your packages for:
- “Sell by” dates ranging from 29-JUL-2024 through 17-OCT-24
- “EST. 12612” or “P-12612” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels
It's imperative that you check your home for these Boar's Head and Old Country products. As of July 30, 2024:
- 34 people have become sick
- 13 states have reported people getting sick
- 33 people have been hospitalized
- 2 people have died
What Happens If You Get Listeriosis?
According to the USDA:
"Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food. "
Just to drive it home, in their statement the USDA said that Listeriosis can effect you up to 2 months after exposure.
What Do I Do If I Have Boar's Head Or Old Country Products Involved In The Recall?
- Do NOT eat them
- Throw them away or return to the store where you bought them
- Thoroughly clean any surface the contaminated product has touched
