With the holidays just around the corner, that means one thing for sure; more sweets, more meals, more snacks, and more weight gain. Although I do feel like Montanans are pretty cautious about what they eat, and a lot of their snacks include a healthy variation of the not-so-healthy favorites.

People from other countries talk about how obese Americans are, which is partly because our portion sizes are MUCH larger than those of other countries. We also tend toward prepackaged food, which tends to be less healthy. If you're curious about where Montana ranks in terms of obesity in the U.S., WalletHub came out with a poll that shows us which states have the highest rates of obesity. Here are the top three:

1. West Virginia
2. Mississippi
3. Kentucky

It's not very surprising that three southern states made the top 3—who doesn't love some delicious deep-fried dishes? To determine how the state got its official rating, WalletHub considers three factors; rates of obesity and overweight individuals, health consequences based on healthcare costs, and food & activity trends.

Now, where does Montana fall on the list of 2022's Most Overweight and Obese States in America?

As you can see, Montana is ranked 36, so that means there are still 35 states that are fatter than us, to put it bluntly.

Colorado came in as the least overweight and obese state in America.

Known for our skiing, hiking, and love for outdoor activities, I really thought Montana would be closer to the bottom of the list, making it closer to the least overweight and obese. Guess we will have to hit the gym a bit harder this upcoming New Year and see if we can get a better ranking next year!
