A wise man once said, "Teach people correct principles and allow them to govern themselves."

Unfortunately, it seems that some folks have a real hard time with that concept. We all know about the stupid criminals out there—folks who, for whatever reason, can't seem to get out of their own way. It seems that often this results in "new laws", and some of those laws are ridiculous.

Take the great state of Montana, for example. Here, in Big Sky Country, we have our fair share of laws that certainly raise an eyebrow or two. Most of us have heard about the law that prohibits a single lady from fishing alone in the Treasure State, but did you know that it is only one of the silly laws that's on the books?

Stupid Montana Laws

Did you know that it is apparently against the law to own a pet rat in Billings? Now, I'm not sure why anyone would want a pet rat, but as a freedom-loving Montanan, I think they should have the right to own one. Oh, and that isn't the only strange law in Billings, apparently. While you can own multiple alarm clocks, the law states you can only have one ring at a time.

Some other strange laws?

You aren't allowed to hunt from an airplane, you can't use a lasso to catch a fish, and if you're in the town of Whitehall, don't even think about honking your horn in front of a sandwich shop after 9 pm. In Helena, you are not allowed to have "sprinkler water" on the sidewalks,

However, the weirdest of them all involves livestock.

According to the lawbooks, it seems that it is illegal in Montana to leave a sheep in the cab of your truck without an adult chaperone. Yep, if you're going to have a sheep in your truck, you need to have someone 18 years or older watching out for them.

Why? I have no clue, but I'm guessing there's a reason behind it, and it's probably a great story.
