Over the weekend, I came across a post from Westmont Park District in Illinois on Facebook, sharing their new winter activities idea for their community... and I got to thinking... could this be something we as a community could also provide?

Free Sleds Here!

The community of Westmont, Illinois came together to create the "Little Sled Library" in their local "Ty Warner Park", allowing one and all to grab a sled to use while at the park in the snow... and to return when all is said and done.

I love to imagine this sort of thing WOULD work well in our cities across Montana, however, I can think of a few this would not be a great option for... mainly, Billings, because we just can't have anything nice anymore.

How Expensive Can It Really Be?

Aside from any insurance or legal issues that may come from a city offering those in the park a free sled to use... the photo shown is of a basic wooden box, likely using scraps from a pallet... and painted blue. Throw in a few $30 sleds and the community is off to the downhill races!

Would it get vandalized in a bigger city in Montana? Maybe. But, being this is such a cheap thing to do... at least the upkeep would be low.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think this would work in communities across Montana? What about the more densely populated cities with higher crime rates? Let us know on App Chat or on Facebook!
