Liam Hemsworth has released an official statement confirming his breakup with Miley Cyrus.

On Monday night (August 12), the Hunger Games star posted a heartbreaking message to Instagram, addressing his split for the first time since the news was announced. He said he wishes his soon-to-be-ex-wife nothing but the best, adding that their separation is a "private matter" and that he will not be commenting on it any further.

The actor also confirmed the comments he allegedly made to The Daily Mail did not come out of his mouth, despite the outlet claiming he told reporters, "You don't understand what it's like, I don't want to talk about it, mate."

"Hi all, he began. "Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."

News of the couple's split broke over the weekend, when when the singer's rep confirmed it in a statement to People: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time," the rep said. "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

The 26-year-old pop star also broke her social media silence on Sunday (August 11), sharing a lengthy message about embracing change. "Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win," she wrote.  "Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once underwater, connected with Africa, change is inevitable."
