You Can Help Fight Hunger in Montana at the Grocery Store
Being hungry for most of us in Montana usually means we skipped lunch, were too busy during the day to get something to eat, or circumstances made us miss a meal for whatever reason. Being hungry because you lack food is also a real problem for thousands of Montanans.
In Montana, 1 in 9 people, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity.
The Montana Food Bank Network, the state’s sole statewide food bank distribution center, is responding by partnering with Albertsons Companies, which operates 40 Albertsons/Safeway stores across Montana. This collab comes as MFBN launches its Campaign for Bigger Impact, aimed at raising $15 million to build a new facility to enhance the sourcing, storage, and distribution of fresh, nutritious, and local food.
Montana Food Bank Networks needs $3 million more for the capital campaign.
Bill Mathews, Chief Development Officer at MFBN, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “Albertsons/Safeway’s support is crucial. Their involvement and their customers will significantly help our mission to end hunger in Montana.”
The fundraising effort is underway now at Montana Albertsons/Safeway stores. The 40 locations in Montana will promote and collect donations for the campaign, which still requires $3 million to meet its fundraising goal to build a new warehouse.
If every Montanan chipped in $3, the goal will be met.
Kathy Holland, Communications and Public Relations for Albertsons Companies Intermountain Division, highlighted their commitment: “Hunger relief is our top priority. Supporting MFBN ensures that individuals and families across Montana have access to necessary food resources.” Breaking down the numbers, they would surpass their three million dollar fundraising goal if every Montanan donated just $3.
Based in Missoula, Montana Food Bank Network serves statewide.
MFBN’s Campaign for Bigger Impact aims to address the increasing demand for food assistance by enhancing its capacity to serve its 360 statewide partners, which include food banks, pantries, schools, and shelters in cities big and small across the state.
