Montanans #1 Way to De-Stress is Not Shocking
In Montana, we work hard and we play hard. And when it's time to de-stress there are plenty of great options in Big Sky Country. Many Montanans enjoy getting outdoors to relax, perhaps fishing, hiking, riding motorcycles and ATVs, or playing a round of golf.
It's no surprise that the #1 way Montanans like to de-stress is by going camping.
According to a report compiled by Interventional Pain Management & Ortho-Spine Center, Google search data confirms it's our favorite de-stressor. Camping was found to be the most popular hobby in Montana, with 12,736 monthly searches on average.
How do you like to unwind in Montana?
Camping is fun, but it's probably not my first choice for de-stressing. With two younger kids (who are essentially no help) all the prep and post-trip cleanup of a camping trip becomes a lot of work. Renting a cabin on the lake is way more my speed and far more relaxing for our family.
Lazy weekends are okay too.
I am prone to getting embarrassingly lazy on the weekends. By Friday, I'm usually pretty wiped out from a long workweek. The last thing I want is activities that require a lot of effort and/or necessitate putting on real clothes instead of sweatpants or ratty gym shorts.
In the summer, there is a 99% chance I'll be chilling with the kids in our cheapo pool, BBQing, and tossing back a few cold ones. My winter weekends are usually spent watching TV/movies with my family, sleeping in, taking a nap, or reading a book. Not very exciting, I know.

The report listed a variety of other activities that Montana residents enjoy to de-stress and relax. They include (in order):
- Kayaking
- Gaming (it doesn't specify video games or casino games)
- Hitting the gym
- Football (we assume watching, not playing)
