Montanans Fed Up with Expensive, Unreliable Fridges. Lawsuit Filed
Is your fancy new refrigerator a piece of junk?
Be prepared for sticker shock if you haven't shopped for appliances in the last few years. Many new refrigerators come with eye-popping price tags. Top models from big brands like LG, Samsung, and Kenmore can start at $2,000. Some are closer to $3,500. That's a lot of cash for something you expect to last for years. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case for many buyers.
A known issue with LG and certain Kenmore refrigerators.
According to a recent lawsuit filed by a law firm in California, the reliability issue with LG and certain Kenmore models involves a part called the linear compressor; essentially the heart of the fridge. Reddit is full of consumer complaints about LG refrigerators. One repair tech wrote,
Um yes. I work on these junk things the compressor always goes out 3-5 years due to the reed valve. Basically the whole fridge stops cooling and all the food is rotten. It’s covered by LG but the time frame is week or longer.
LG has been sued before.
NBC Bay Area reported that LG settled a lawsuit in 2018 regarding their compressors. This new suit is alleging fraud. The company has a 10-year warranty on its compressors and online marketing materials tout "20-year durability". LA-based attorney Azar Mouzari says this is a lie, and the company knows it.
Search for "LG reliability issues" and you'll find hundreds of accounts where buyers experienced problems with their expensive new refrigerators. Many reports mention repeated visits from technicians and long delays while waiting for repairs, leading to spoiled food and/or a huge inconvenience.
If you bought an LG fridge anytime after 2018 and it turned out to be a worthless piece of junk, you're encouraged to reach out to the law firm. The attorneys are urging a federal judge to make this a class action lawsuit, as they believe thousands of consumers have been impacted.
