Exotic Plants are Hot. Plant-a-palooza is Coming to Billings
Fans of house plants won't want to miss the Magic City's first ever Plant-a-palooza, September 7th and 8th at Brass Velvet Trading Co., a charming new boutique in Billings. The two-day event is expected to draw hundreds of indoor foliage fans for a fun weekend of plant swapping, sharing, selling, and more.
Not a green thumb? It's never too late to learn.
People enjoy indoor plants for a variety of reasons. Plants can brighten a room or workspace. They release oxygen and can help clean the air, and for many, plants are fun to grow. Caring for plants can be therapeutic and a rewarding, relatively low-stress hobby.
Exotic plant collecting is more popular than ever.
Greenhouse Magazine notes that collecting rare plants is enjoying a resurgence in the US, perhaps kickstarted during COVID when everyone was stuck at home, bored to tears.
Some rare house plants are worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars, with collectors going to great lengths to find the latest, trendy, rare plant. We spoke with a local rare-plant expert named Monet Bjerken, owner of Monet's Garden. Her story is quite interesting (link below). She'll be one of many vendors at Plant-a-palooza.

The two-day event will feature Salt Lake City's Pixel Plant Co., along with dozens of other local and regional vendors. It's all about the plants, of course, but they'll also have tattoo artists on-site with affordable plant-themed tattoos, food and drink vendors, and plenty of other fun booths and displays to enjoy.
Check out Brass Velvet Trading Co. at 111 Moore Lane.
Tucked into an unassuming building in a somewhat industrial part of town, Brass Velvet Trading Co. is a very fun store. I say this a dude, who is typically not the demographic for boutiques.
They have unique items for men and women, including exclusive imports from Europe, handmade leather goods from a Montana company, stylish classic fashion for men and women, and fun little things that caught my eye tucked throughout the store.
