Get Sky High in Red Lodge 4th of July Weekend

I've lived in the Billings area for 20 years and I was today years old when I learned you can ride the ski lift a Red Lodge Mountain Resort in the summertime. I'm not sure how I haven't heard of this activity before at RLM; perhaps it's because I haven't skied or snowboarded since I was a teen and I'm apparently out of the loop on summer ski lodge activities in Red Lodge.

My friend Anne Costilla shared some breathtaking photos last weekend of her and her hubby riding the chair lift at the popular local ski resort, and now I'm feeling the need to take my family on a summertime lift ride to the top of the mountain. None of us are active skiers and I know my girls would love the experience.

While Red Lodge Mountain Resort may not have some of the more extravagant summer activities as bigger ski resorts in the West, they do offer a variety of fun things during the off-season, including scenic lift rides on the resort's new flagship lift, the Stache Express.

Summer Operations at Red Lodge Mountain are on weekends only.

If you're coming to Red Lodge for the 4th of July Weekend and need a high-altitude break from the festivities in town, consider heading to the Mountain for additional outdoor recreation. Summer hours are 10 AM to 6 PM, Friday - Sunday.

• Chairlift rides are $10. Ages 5 and under are free. Season ski passes are also valid.
• The new disk golf course is free to play, even outside of operating hours.
• The Bierstube serves as retail operations/ticket office/restaurant from 10 AM to 6 PM with the beer and grill menu available at 11. Grab-and-go lunches are available starting at 10 AM.
