Just a quick note for all the commuters into and around downtown Billings.

Skypoint, the overhanging artistic landmark at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and 2nd Avenue North (aka 28th Street and 2nd Avenue North) will undergo some maintenance and renovation this week, September 15th through the 20th.

As a result of this project, the intersection of Broadway and 2nd will be entirely closed to all traffic while the crews work there.  That intersection will be blocked off from 7:00 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening each day until the renovation is completed.

So for anyone driving there in the morning, please give yourself a few extra minutes to finagle a new route to your destination.  And downtown employers, please be cool if an employee or two are a few minutes late because they had to find a road less traveled.

Can I park on Broadway or 2nd Avenue?

Yes to both, but you will have to figure out how to get in and out of both streets without the use of that one intersection.  Broadway north and south of 2nd Avenue is open to parking along with 2nd Avenue east and west of Broadway (am I being redundant?).

What about the Parking Garage?

You can access the City Hall parking garage from the 2nd Avenue entrance on the south side of the building.  Getting out there may mean taking the alley just west of that facility.

What work are they doing to Skypoint?

This third phase of maintenance will be installing a new set of sails on the structure and an upgrade of the electrical system.  A year ago, the sails were removed and a fresh coat of paint applied.

So please play it safe around Skypoint and the folks working there.  They will finish as soon as they can, and then the traffic with return to normal with a fully restored Skypoint.
