When the first snow hit Billings this year, I realized that my winter coat had gotten much too small for me. I knew I needed something different, especially since the only other coats I owned were way too light for cold temperatures and snow. Lucky for me, I found a coat I knew I would love. And I found it right here in downtown Billings from a local clothing shop, instead of online.

I Knew What I Was Looking For

I wanted to find something warm, but also something that I knew would look fashionable as well, since I don't really partake in winter activities like skiing or snowboarding. I immediately thought about a pea coat, which are heavy wool, collared coats that go down to just below the waist.

The pea coat has military origins, first worn by the Dutch navy in the 1800s but popularized by the British and American navies around the same time period. It has since grown to become a fashion-forward coat that, I think, shows a lot of class. However, I found that a local shop right here in Billings had the coat for a fraction of the cost of a brand new one, and it was gorgeous.

I Highly Recommend Finding These Coats Here in Town

This coat is absolutely comfortable and warm. This pea coat only cost me $65 from Montana Vintage Clothing downtown. It was a whole lot better than getting one brand new for around $100 on the internet, plus I was able to try it on before buying it. I highly recommend checking out your local shops instead of shopping online.

It's hard to imagine what Yellowstone National Park would look like in black and white. We are so used to seeing the colors that make it one of America's favorite travel destinations. Jezel Doughert's grandmother passed away and like many of us do, she spent hours going through years and years of history, from old yearbooks to news clippings, to pictures. Jezel sent me a piece of history that, if not for her, I wouldn't be able to share with you.
