Cities build, demolish and rebuild structures all the time.  So every opportunity to raise a tree to the sky should be taken and celebrated.  Billings will add some more trees to the community landscape.

First Planting, Thursday, November 7th

The first tree set into the ground will be at 10:00 in the morning at the 1889 Brewing Company at 204 N 13th in the East Billings Urban Renewal District (EBURD).  And you are welcome to come watch the action, and adults 21 and over may enjoy a refreshing beverage at the 1889 later that day.

There will be more large plantings forthcoming in the Magic City, specifically in the midtown areas, the EBURD area just east of downtown, and in South Billings.

Who's paying for these Trees?

Taxpayers have through the U.S. Forest Service.  They provided a $1 million grant to the Forestry Division as part of the national Inflation Reduction Act.  The grant will be spent to plant new trees along boulevards, remove unhealthy and unsafe trees and prune healthy trees already in place.

The mission is to set up trees in bare pedestrian areas of Billings covered over with concrete and asphalt.  Bring a little more nature and shade to the urban scene.

Who's gonna take care of these Trees?

City contractors will provide watering and maintenance for the first three years while the trees grow.  After that, the property owners will take over the care.  The Forestry Division is looking for volunteers to help plant and care for them.  You are certainly welcome to help out.

Hugging the trees is optional.
