Playoffs solidify after last week's games as teams battle for a playoff berth.

In Class C, #5 4-3 (2-3) Broadview looks to make a jump as they welcome #3 6-2 (3-2) Absarokee Friday night with a chance to jump over the Huskies in the standings with a win. #2 5-3 (4-1) Custer/Hysham looks to hold onto their home-field advantage with a win over #4 4-3 (3-2) Shields Valley, who has the chance to leap up to the #2 seed. Custer and Broadview are coming off of their inter-county game, where the Rebels took home the win in a 40-30 final.

A tough loss for Shepherd.

Shepherd lost a crucial game to Baker in week 7, sending them down to the #5 seed with their 2-6 (2-3) record. Shepherd had beaten Roundup and Colstrip earlier in the year, but with the 6-1 (5-0) Red Lodge Rams the last game on the schedule, it looks like Shepherd is eliminated from November play this year.

The Red Devils (4-4) are still in the hunt though, coming off of their 36-point shutout of the Roundup Panthers. They’ll head out to face the 6-1 (4-1) J Hawks in Joliet. Both teams are tied at 4-1 in conference play, and the winner of this matchup should be set to earn the #2 seed and majority home-field advantage for the postseason.

Central and Laurel - how do they stand?

Billings Central continues to lead the Eastern-A division with their perfect 8-0 record. Coming off of the Hardin forfeit, Central handled Lockwood last week 63-7, where Lockwood finally pushed the total points against the Rams past 60 (61) on the season with their lone touchdown. While things can change, it looks like the Rams may have the #1 seed secured.

#4 6-2 Laurel and #8 2-6 Lockwood face off in both team’s final match of the season in a game with much different circumstances for each team. Laurel looks to prepare for the postseason, where they’ve made it into the playoff at the #4 spot at the lowest, but a win and a Fergus loss will push them up to the #3 seed. Lockwood will look to finish their season on a high note, unfortunately, knocked out of playoff contention this year.

Class AA standings.

Yellowstone’s Class-AA teams look to be solidified in their standings, as the 3-5 (2-4) Senior Broncs hold the tiebreaker (and record) over the 1-7 (1-5) Skyview Falcons. Skyview will be headed out to Bozeman to face the undefeated 8-0 (6-0) Gallatin Raptors. Senior will be welcoming in the 5-3 (3-3) Hawks from Bozeman into Daylis on Friday with the opportunity to jump up in the standings, though the loss to 4-4 (3-3) CMR last week limits their opportunity to increase their seed.

Bozeman, Russell, and Senior will be shuffling around with this week’s results. 7-1 (5-1) Billings West will have a tuneup match against the eliminated 1-7 (0-6) Panthers in Belgrade. The Bears are locked into the #2 seed, their singular conference loss coming to the Raptors in the #2 spot.

Cats and Griz this weekend.

The Bobcats have their second and final bye of the year, coming off of a 44-14 win in Portland against 1-6 (1-3) PSU, continuing their (8-0) undefeated season. Touchdown Tommy had 3 through the air alongside 239 yards on 15/20 attempts, continuing to show off the improvement to his arm over the offseason. They’ll come off the bye playing at the red field of (currently) 2-5 (1-2) Eastern Washington on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The 5-2 (2-1) Grizzlies bounced back from the Weber State loss with a win against 4-4 (2-2) Northern Arizona 31-20. With 357 total yards, 199 of them off the arm of Fresno State transfer QB Logan Fife, the Grizzlies are hoping to keep their foot on the gas to not fall further down the Big Sky rankings. They’ll face off against 1-6 (1-2) Northern Colorado who comes off a 21-17 win over Weber State. That game will be in Greeley, CO at 1:00 pm, October 26.

I Drank Both of Starbucks’ ‘Wicked’ Beverages

In honor of Wicked, Starbucks introduced two limited-time beverages inspired by the film. Obviously, I drank them both.
