Wildfire Reported South of Billings. Public Advised to Stay Away
Hot, dry conditions provided the perfect environment for a small wildfire to ignite south of Billings on Friday (8/16). The smoke was visible from most of Billings. The fire is located south of Duck Creek and River Road, near the intersection of Hillcrest and Keller Road.
According to a social media post from the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office, the incident was reported shortly after 5 pm on Friday. A county-wide call for Mutual Aid assistance went out just before 6 pm and multiple agencies are currently responding, including air support by fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter.
Officials urge the public to stay away from the area to prevent traffic congestion. In other words, looky-loos should steer clear of the area until further notice.
This is a developing story and more information will be added if/when it becomes available.
