Young Montanans Should Hear Stephen Sanchez
Early every morning after starting the car to go to work, I check our radio stations to make sure they are on the air. One morning a song surprised me on the modern pop station the Mix 97.1, because it sounded like from the 1950s.
Did the car radio miss the FM signal and found an oldies station? No, the display verified Mix and 97.1. So why was it playing a tune from the days of Elvis?
The song is "Until I Found You" by Stephen Sanchez, remixed with Em Beihold. The original version was released in September 2021 and the remix nine months later in 2022. The music sounded like only from a single guitar, soft drums and a tambourine. Sanchez sang in the 50s crooning style of the Everly Brothers. It sounded like it could have debuted on American Bandstand on black and white TV. The music video is even set on a classic television soundstage.
I know a lot of readers are asking "Everly Brothers?" "American Bandstand?" Ask your grandparents.
"Until I Found You" peaked at #23 on Billboard and #14 in the UK.
Sanchez doesn't just sound the part; he looks the part. Slicked back black hair, jacket and slacks and dress shoes, the tie optional. A single lock falling over the forehead. He looks like Lou Diamond Phillips playing Ritchie Valens from the 1987 film La Bamba. (What, still before your time?!)
Sanchez even returned to the beach party with the song "Baby Blue Bathing Suit"
Mr. Sanchez brought a new sound to the new generation by resurrecting classic early rock. You can catch more of his music in this throwback style, and I highly recommend the search. In this age of digital sounds, syncopated beats and edgy lyrics, the nostalgia is a welcome change.
