VIDEO: Fire Destroys Vehicles in Billings Senior High Parking Lot
It was another wild weekend in Billings, with a robbery and assault Saturday morning, a shooting at Swords Park, and what appears to be two cases of arson on Sunday evening. Billings resident Ashley Delp shared a dramatic video of flames engulfing two vehicles in the Senior High Parking lot off Grand Avenue. MTN reported that one of the destroyed vehicles was a life skills van owned by the school district.
According to the Billings Police Department, the call for the fire at Senior High came in at 7:37 PM and authorities responded quickly to the blaze. Shortly after, another vehicle was reported on fire near the HRDC building at Montana Avenue and 31st St N.
Are the incidents linked?
Few details are available at this time and BPD Seargent Beck noted the investigation is ongoing. Arson is the leading cause of fires in the US, according to a report from FEMA, and is the second leading cause of death from fires. Arson causes $1.4 billion in property loss each year. The report reveals that 20% of all arson fires are vehicles and half of all arson arrests are juveniles.
