Meet Dick's bird, Sonny.  Dick is our engineer and owns a couple of parrots that he occasionally brings to the station.  I was happy to see Dick's bird today because when you see Dick's bird, it means warmer temperatures have arrived.  Dick's bird does not like to come out when it's cold.  Did I choose to write about this bird because there is something immaturely funny about typing "Dicks' bird" that annoys our editor?  Maybe a little...but there's a little more to it than that.

I learned today that in addition to liking the ladies, Dick's bird (whom I will refer to as Sonny from here on so as not to get into trouble) also hates the phone.  During his visit today, he climbed on Mackenzie's shoulder and sat there being mostly silent...until the phone rang.  As soon as Mackenzie answered, Sonny started going haywire, yelling into the phone.  Luckily for her, the caller thought it was funny and instantly recognized it as a bird and not just a crazy person yelling weird phrases into the phone.

I do enjoy seeing Sonny when he stops by, but I've learned that it takes a special kind of person to own one of these things.  Personally, I'll stick to animals that walk, don't talk and die before I do.
