Why do they call it the "dog days of summer?" Well it is said to be because the Dog Star (Sirius) in the Canis Major constellation is prominent in night skies during July through August.

July Caesar
The month July was named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar. August was named for great nephew Gaius Octavian, later known as Caesar Augustus.
