Game of Thrones Trivia from Behind the Scenes
I had done Game of Thrones quite a few times for the Wednesday night players at the GrandStand Sports Bar. So when asked again, I tried a new wrinkle by using the trivia from the Internet Movie Database, or IMDb.com about things that happened behind the scenes. It made a sudden challenge for the die-hard fans of the show.
Instead of the questions and the answers farther down the page, I'll just impart these ten bits of trivia about the epic show.
George R.R. Martin is the author of the books that Game of Thrones is based on. Two characters, Arya and Sansa Stark, were so beloved by Martin's wife that she threatened to leave him if they were killed off.
Jack Gleeson plays the bratty king Joffrey Baratheon. George R.R. Martin wrote Gleeson a letter when the show started airing, with this line, "Congratulations on your marvelous performance. Everyone hates you."
Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, received eight nominations for an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama, once for each season. He won four times for the 1st, 5th, 7th and 8th seasons, and has the record for most supporting actor Emmys for one role.
Gwendoline Christie, 6'3" and playing Brienne, trained with the sword 3-4 days a week for two months, to build up the stamina for the one fight scene. Her opponent was 6'6" actor Rory McCann, who plays Sandor Clegane, the Hound.
After filming, Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys, got a tattoo of three dragons on her wrist.
This next piece of trivia really bothers me.
Cersei Lannister was voted the most hated by fans. The actress who plays Cersei, Lena Headey, was shunned at conventions, called names online and in public, and even had books snatched away from her before she could sign her autograph.
Seriously? Well, the word Fan is short for Fanatic. Look, Fans, if you cannot separate the character from the actor, then you have a problem.
Moving on...
Kit Harrington leaked the secret that his character Jon Snow would live to a police officer to avoid a speeding ticket. The officer gave him that option.
Daenerys' three dragons are named for other characters from her life. Drogon is after Drogo her husband, Rhaegal after brother Rhaegar, Viserion after her mean brother Viserys.
Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain visited the Game of Thrones set and was invited to sit on the Iron Throne. She declined. An English monarch is not allowed to sit on a foreign throne, even a fictional one.
At their first meeting, Jason Mamoa (Drogo) actually rugby tackled Emilia Clarke to the floor of a Belfast hotel and yelled "Wifey!"
It's a wonder she didn't scratch his eyes out, haha.
