Little children don't need to fear Halloween monsters.  Some should fear immature young adults.  Two separate cases, five years apart but in the news this last week, shows Montana's intolerance for abuse.

The first case happened in 2019 in Red Lodge, when a then 9-month-old baby suffered fractures to the skull and retinal hemorrhages in both eyes at the hands of Nathan Samuel Polakoff, then 22.  Responding officers found him with the baby shallowly breathing and listless, so they delivered the boy to Beartooth Billings Clinic who transported him to Salt Lake City.  Doctors examining the child concluded the severe injuries came from violent acceleration/deceleration impact into something, twice.  Polakoff had tried to obstruct the truth by claiming the boy fell off a futon two days earlier and then requested the victim's mother and aunt to lie to police about him having been alone with the child.

According to the Attorney General's press release, Polakoff has been sentenced to 20 years in the state prison.  The boy is now six years old with cognitive difficulties and partial blindness.

Drunk Browning Woman Assaults 3-Year-Old

The second case happened this last March on the Blackfeet Reservation when Micah Lynn Brown, 25, came home after drinking and was confronted by her boyfriend about said drinking.  He left the residence and his children to use a neighbor's phone, and in those ten minutes, she moved a couch to block the front door.  One child, a daughter aged three, soiled her diaper, removed it herself and threw it on the floor.  This enraged Brown and she assaulted the toddler.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office press release, when the boyfriend forced his way in, he found the girl injured and screaming.  He promptly removed all the children and called police.  The Browning Community Hospital treated her injuries.

Micah Lynn Brown pled guilty to felony child abuse and assault resulting in bodily injury to an individual under 16.  She faces up to 15 years in prison and $300,000 in fines.
