Meet the Monsters at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman
Trump is not the only big deal to come to Bozeman, Montana.
Enter the Museum of the Rockies and pass the foyer to find a great Dragon and the tentacles of the Kraken.
Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids: Mythic Creatures is currently on display at the MOR, through January 5th. Two large rooms are filled with artifacts, art, clothing, coins and other things that bring the legend and history of strange creatures to life.
But of course the real stars are the huge monsters like the Dragon above. This beast is about 25 feet from nose to tip of tail. There is also a Kraken peeking up from the floor with two writhing tentacles looking for tasty visitors. There is a Unicorn with the evidence from the natural world that led to this fantastic equine. There is a great ape larger than a gorilla and a flightless bird larger than the ostrich.
This giant eagle, or Roc, sports a 18-20 foot wingspan and could have taken a horse.
The presentations are split into three realms: Water, Air and Land, each with its star attractions. I tantalize you now and will follow up with more articles from each realm.
There is one message in this overall display that really explains how these super-natural animals were created and have taken our imagination. "The eye catches only a glimpse. The mind fills in the rest."
The Museum of the Rockies is open every day 9:00 to 5:00, closed on specific holidays. Check their website for current availability.
