New Billings Businesses Battling for $40k, part 2
More new businesses are competing for a $40,000 expense reimbursement in the Billings Business Pitch Plan, with a final decision on August 28th. Part I explained a couple of them. Here are some more. Darn, I missed the pitch from Magic City Battlegrounds and I wonder what it is; don't think it's a boxing or MMA gym, maybe a paintball arena? Anyway...
The Good Wolf
Turns out there are over 400 alcohol establishment in Billings, and we are within a 5-minute drive of a place where adults can get a drink. The Good Wolf will be a night club and dance hall, a fun place for everyone without alcohol. Nice parts about this: no one gets stupid or obnoxious; and you won't need a designated driver.
Whimsie
The wife and husband entrepreneurs used a term I have to look up. Maximalist: belonging or relating to a style in art, design, etc. that uses the largest range of materials and colors possible, and very complicated shapes or forms (Cambridge Dictionary). That explains Whimsie, a home decor and plant store offering bold designs, furniture and potted plants to reflect the homeowner's outward personality. Haha, this is wearing your heart in your living room.
Now for a couple business with an eye for nostalgia:
The Firestone Food Court
This is a daring venture to renovate the historic Firestone complex on 31st Street and 1st Avenue North to include an outdoor food court for five food trucks, indoor fine dining, and an art studio. I liked this idea for the sake of restoring a building from the 20th century. Please please keep the Firestone logos and paint them back to the original colors.
Pete's Meats
At one time, every neighborhood had a butcher shop. A seasoned butcher of over 20 years, Pete will bring back this community staple, providing high quality cuts of beef from ranches in the state. According to him, this business will be in Billings, whether he wins the Battle of the Plans or not.
My Take on the Battle of the Plans
Whoever wins this business competition will have $40k of their expenses reimbursed. Still, these start-ups would benefit from networking their plans. For example, Whimsie may host a large planting party at The Good Wolf. Moffee Mug may provide a healthy alternative to coffee while customers unwind with the cats at Kitty Korner. All of them should interconnect with the existing business in downtown Billings to support a vibrant community.
It's tough to start a business, so I applaud all efforts toward self-sufficient capitalism. I look forward to covering opening day on all these.
