New Genetically Enhanced Bananas Redefining Freshness Standards Worldwide
This right here is BANANAS! Did you know that there is apparently a department of science devoted to improving BANANAS? Yep, sure is and those heroes delivered. Get ready for this.... Scientists in the U.K. have created a new variety of banana, and it is not just any banana. It is one that stays fresh for 12 hours AFTER being peeled open.
These super bananas will launch later this month in several countries, and they will be coming the U.S. as well as Canada. The Scientists said they will stay so fresh that you can put them in a fruit salad . . . and they won't get brown and mushy and all gross.

Even at 24-hour mark, this new variety will have 30% less browning than a traditional banana. Everything else is the same. They say that will have the "same taste, smell, sweetness and texture" . . . just with edited genes. Making that lean towards the slightly controversial side of things.
They say it isn't a GMO because they didn't introduce any foreign genetic material. They made changes to the banana's EXISTING genes by "disabling" the ones that create the enzyme that browns the bananas.
The new bananas will launch later this month in several countries, including the U.S. and Canada. But coincidentally, they WON'T be available in Britain. Where the scientists are based and did all the things to make these happen. At least not yet. Oddly enough Britain currently bans the sale of genetically edited plants and fruits.
