Today is World No Tobacco Day, an observance set up by the World Health Organization meant to encourage anyone who smokes to abstain from lighting up for 24 hours.

Of course, there’s a lot of attention on all the negative health effects caused by tobacco, so the day is used as an opportunity to sort of scare smokers straight. Or for them to just try it to try it.

The day is also often used as a start date for putting in place new smoking bans and tobacco control efforts with different governments and companies. (WHO)
