Growing up in the Bible Belt region of Tennessee and Kentucky, I have known a lot of people who were put off by Prince's flamboyant style. Some who "wouldn't pay a nickel to see him". I was never one of those people. I have had a great respect for Prince as a performer since the Purple Rain era, and like everyone else, I was shocked to hear the news of his passing.

So...why take the time to write anything about Prince when most people are already seeing a flood of Prince tributes and comments all over the internet? Mainly because I wanted to share a video that showcases the fact that he was a musician...not just a performer. Unlike many of the pop artists today, Prince's guitar wasn't a prop; he could play.

About the video: After the passing of the great George Harrison, some music legends got together for a tribute to the former Beatle. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, and Prince took the stage for a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I'm sure there were some people who thought Prince's name seemed a bit out of place among the rockers on stage, but by the end of the performance there was no question that Prince had a place on that stage.

R.I.P. Prince
