With Lent underway, Billings restaurants are serving up the fish.

It's that time of year when every fast food chain hypes their typically limited fish options. Taco John's has fish tacos (surprisingly not bad), Arby's is heavily marketing their King's Hawaiian Fish Deluxe sandwich, and Wendy's has its Crispy Panko Fish sandwich prominently displayed on the menu from now until Easter. Fish sandwiches are tasty, but a great fish taco is WAY better, IMO.

Up your game with not-fast-food fish.

Despite being over 800 miles from the nearest ocean, Billings offers a surprising array of delectable fish tacos, ready to transport your taste buds. But with so many options, where do you start? Fear not, we've got some of your best options, (based on Google Reviews and personal opinion) below.

For the Authentic Mexican Experience fish tacos.

La Tinga. Boasting a near-perfect 4.7-star rating, this local gem serves up fish tacos as part of their authentic Mexican repertoire. Reviewers rave about the fresh, flavorful fish and authentic preparation, making it a must-try for traditionalists. For me, La Tinga is perhaps the closest thing I've found to "real" Mexican food in Billings.

For Value and Variety

Camacho's Tacos. With 4.6 stars and hundreds of enthusiastic reviews, Camacho's offers a lot of bang for your buck. In the former Steve's Hot Dogs location at 2240 Grand, if you haven't tried the fish tacos at Camaacho's, give them a shot.

For a Touch of Class

Jake's Downtown. While renowned for their steaks, Jake's surprisingly delivers on the fish taco front too. It's one of my go-to restaurants in Billings for fantastic fish tacos. Their 4.4-star rating speaks for itself, with reviewers highlighting the crispy batter and fresh ingredients that elevate this dish beyond typical pub fare.

For Casual Vibes and Fresh Fish

Crazy Mary's. Beloved for her lively personality and friendly service, Crazy Mary's might not list "fish tacos" on their menu, but their highly-rated fish and chips (4.7 stars) can easily be enjoyed taco-style. Crazy Mary is now based out of her food truck, parked on the east side of North Park downtown.

Flavorful Fish with a Cajun flair.

Phatty's Seafood & Steakhouse. Formerly known as Cajun Phatty's, the restaurant rebranded a little and moved across town last year from King Ave W to Grand Avenue. Phatty's offers a variety of shrimp tacos, Baja fish tacos, and a catfish taco special that fans love.
