Beware Montana, If You See This Sticker, Please Leave It Alone.

Living in Montana, you never know what you'll come across as far as wildlife goes.  This is why whenever you're hiking, or spending time outdoors you always need to be familiar with your surroundings and to be sure that you're prepared for the adventure of the day.

From bears to moose, elk, and mountain lions, Montana has its fair share of critters that could pose a threat.

However, there are also in-town threats that people need to be aware of as well and now there is a new program that does just that.  The national program which was recently implemented can be found in all 50 states.

The program is from the United States Postal Service and is geared to make sure and keep their carriers as safe as can be while they're out delivering mail on their routes. Let's be honest, being a mail carrier can be a rough job, especially when you live in a state where it seems like winter is 9 months long and that's only part of it.

Another aspect is dealing with aggressive pets, and that is exactly what the new program does by placing a sticker of a paw on Montana mailboxes. The program is designed to not only help keep carriers safe but to also let folks who might be filling in or new to the route that the residence has a dog on the premises.

So how often are Montana mail carriers bitten?

According to the Bozeman Postmaster, on average there are 14 dog bites a year across the state, however, there are over 6 thousand bites across the nation. The new sticker program hopes to decrease those numbers. The stickers come in two different colors, orange and yellow and the yellow sticker will be used on a mailbox to let the carrier know that the next house might be the home of an aggressive dog.

So, if you do have a dog and you find the sticker on your mailbox, the USPS is asking that you please do not remove it.
