Popular Montana Bridge In One Of The Biggest Movies Of All Time.

Montana is no stranger when it comes to television and film.

We're all aware of how popular Yellowstone and the spin-offs are right now, and of course with movies like A River Runs Through It, the beauty of Montana has been highlighted several times over the years. Even if for just a scene or two.

However, did you know that a particular bridge was featured in one of the biggest movies of all time and that bridge is located right here in Montana?

I recently took a little vacation and the family and I decided to visit Glacier National Park and take a trip on Going To The Sun Road before it closed for the season. It was my first time on the historic road, and for those who've never been, it is a total must.

We decided to enjoy the view, so we booked seats on the Red Bus Tour which allowed for spectacular views especially since the roof was rolled back. For those that don't know, the Red Buses have been part of Glacier National Park since the 1930s and with the expectation of the updated chasies, are the same buses that have been used for almost 100 years.

Don was our driver and tour guide and did a wonderful job of sharing not only the history of the buses but the road itself as well as all of the landmarks along the way such as Saint Mary Lake and Logan Pass. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the GNP and all of the history behind it. Plus, he shared some fun tidbits as well.

Including one that came as a surprise to almost everyone on the bus.

When entering Glacier National Park from St Mary, you cross a small stone bridge. That bridge was used in the blockbuster and Oscar Award Winning Movie, Forrest Gump. In the scene with the bridge, Forrest is running across the country to quote the character for "no particular reason".

Here's another interesting fact, apparently it wasn't Tom Hanks who was filmed running across the bridge, it was his brother, Jim.  As the story goes, the actor's stunt doubles couldn't figure out the stride that Hanks had developed, so his younger brother was used instead.

Forrest Gump wasn't the only Hollywood Blockbuster that used Glacier National Park as a background.  The Shining, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Hildago are some other big-time movies that used the Park in some fashion or another.
