Reached out to the contact at Rosebud County and received a good update on this helping program and what you can do.  Rosebud County DES is working with the Rosebud County Cattlewomen and The Community Foundation.  Here's the barebones of it all:

Ranches in 3 Counties may receive assistance

The Remington Fire relief program will assist impacted ranches in Rosebud, Powder River and Big Horn counties.

You can donate money to the relief effort two ways.

Mail a check noting Remington Fire relief donation in memo line.  Use either of two addresses: First State Bank, PO Box 379, Forsyth MT 59327; or the Rosebud County Cattlewomen Association, PO Box 965, Forsyth MT 59327.  You can also drop off the check at either First State Bank or at State Farm in Forsyth.

The other method is through Paypal at this link: Donate (paypal.com).  It should read "Rosebud Cattlewomen".

Please do not drop off material donations

These nice organizers have already received more items like food, water and clothing than they can manage.  Money is a better donation vehicle.

They are still working on locations for hay and fencing materials.  Will update when I learn more.

Questions?  Were you impacted by the Fire?

You can email Keith Raymond at kraymond@rosebudcountymt.com or call 406-346-7968.  Application to receive funds will soon be available through the Rosebud Cattlewomen's Facebook page or by their address above.

The wildfire began in Wyoming and invaded the state and the southern end of Rosebud County.  The Remington Fire has charred about 200,000 acres with very little containment.

To their credit, residents have contacted the county wanting to give towards the restoration of cattle operations and property.  Officials realized a team was needed to facilitate the receipt and distribution of monies and materials donated.  Such a committee has been formed and will begin organizing the logistics of this endeavor.

Hold Your Gift for Now

Rosebud County appreciates all the interest in giving for these ag producers.  Please keep your donation idea and amount in mind for when this project gets off the ground.

According to the Rosebud County Disaster and Emergency Services (DES), the next step for the committee is to set up a donation location, then get the word out.  When the contributions arrived, the same committee will see them distributed.  So stay tuned for the official launch.

For the affected ranchers in the county, they can now make an inventory of items destroyed by the fire, documenting the losses, then email that list to kraymond@rosebudcountymt.com.

Remington Fire Location

The blaze is in the southern end of Rosebud County and in the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.  The majority of the destruction is just east of the Tongue River and Hanging Woman Creek with some incursion into the Custer National Forest.  While some evacuation orders are activated, residents are invited to a community meeting in Birney on Wednesday the 28th.

This post will be updated as new information arrives.
