Unless I'm waiting for a specific package, I check my mailbox about once a week. All my bills are paid online so there's not much that is "time sensitive" showing up.

Besides a jury duty letter, and some high school correspondence, there hasn't been anything important that arrived by snail mail in the past year. If it wasn't for the 40 to 50 pieces of junk mail that needs to be cleaned out of it every week, there would be no reason to open it.

Now with this new service from the US Postal Service, there will be even fewer trips to the mailbox.

According to the USPS website, Informed Delivery is an "optional notification feature that gives residential consumers the ability to digitally preview their letter-sized mail and manage their packages scheduled to arrive soon."

The service has a personal dashboard that allows you to see a greyscale scan of incoming mail, track and schedule packages, and set up phone notifications.
