Not everyone loves loud, crowded bars.

I'm probably not the best person to write this article, because I'm:

  • Not single. I've been in a committed relationship for like 17 years.
  • Not an introvert. While I like my space (who doesn't?), this profession is pretty much the complete opposite. I'm around people. All. The. Time.

So while I'm generally an extrovert, I enjoy a fun, relaxing bar versus a rowdy, packed place nine times out of ten. And the ability to talk without yelling becomes more appealing with every birthday.

What's an introvert?

There may be some misconceptions about what defines an introvert. According to WebMD,

An introvert is a person with qualities of a personality type known as introversion, which means that they feel more comfortable focusing on their inner thoughts and ideas, rather than what's happening externally. They enjoy spending time with just one or two people, rather than large groups or crowds.

Dating above age 40 in Billings.

A recent post on social media asked the question about good places for a divorced, middle-aged introvert to re-enter the dating scene in Billings. Some great suggestions were posted in the thread, including the Winner's Circle (seen above) near 24th and Grand. Smaller, neighborhood casinos and bars are typically pretty chill. Another commenter recommended the Squire Lounge, which I can attest is a great place to meet people and has a fun mix of clientele.

Not a drinker?

So many activities in society seem to encourage drinking, including meeting new people, but there's a cool new spot in town called DaKava that's getting a lot of buzz (pun completely not intended).

Find bars with social games.

A few commenters mentioned Bullwackers as a quieter, fun option on weeknights or earlier on the weekends. Numerous pool tables and darts (and shuffleboard too!) can be found at Shooter's Sports Bar. The Powderhorn Lounge was mentioned, as were a couple of my other favorites, the Tap Inn and the 11:45, both on Broadwater.

Quieter still.

There's City Vineyard if you love wine and tasty plates. TEN at the Northern and Bin 119 are other classy, lively options for quieter conversations and while I haven't been to the recently re-opened Granary it has always been a cool spot with a great ambiance.
