4th of July in Deadwood Looks Like a Great Time

Deadwood, SD is a popular destination for many Montanans, especially for those who live in the eastern half of the state. It's a relatively quick getaway for folks in the Billings area and the community is ready to throw an awesome party this 4th of July weekend.

I love Deadwood. We usually visit once or twice a year. Typically, our trips are during the off-season, when rooms are more affordable and the crush of tourists isn't so overwhelming. The upside to visiting the Black Hills in the summer is that there are many more things to do.

I received an email from the Historic Deadwood Chamber of Commerce today and the festivities for the 2024 Independence Day celebration in the charming mountain town sound like a ton of fun. Here's the rundown.

July 4 - Street Parade at 3 pm

Visitors will enjoy a patriotic parade through Deadwoods Main Street at 3 pm. The parade starts at the Days of ’76 Event Complex and continues on Hwy 14a through Central City and on to Lead. Historic Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the parade.

July 4 - Free Movie in Outlaw Square at 6:30 pm

Take a break from strolling the sights with a free showing of the beloved 1993 football movie Rudy.

July 5 - Blackhawk, free concert at Outlaw Square

This harmony duo has sold over 7 million albums, scored some of the most distinctive country radio hits of the ‘90s, and still draws tens of thousands of fans to their electrifying live performances.

July 6 - Spin Doctors, free concert at Outlaw Square

Another huge band from the 90s will take the free concert stage in the heart of downtown Deadwood on Saturday.

NOTE: Fireworks are not permitted in Deadwood, nor is there a public fireworks display. Fireworks are also illegal in the Black Hills National Forest. This might be attractive for those looking to escape the noise of the 4th because of PTSD or pets. Nearby Sturgis will have a fireworks display on July 3rd and Rapid City has numerous displays on July 4th.
