National Pie Day: A Sweet Dive Into Montana’s Pie Trail And Popular Recipes

Happy National Pie Day! Do you love pie? By pie I mean 3.14 repeating. Kidding. I mean that delicious little slices of heaven! Everybody and their mother love a good piece of pie, and it isn't just for holidays! Today is "Pi Day," because . . . well, you should know this if you've paid attention in math class . . . the first three digits of the "number" pi are 3.14.

So, what are our favorite pies you ask? Where is the best place to get pies in the great state of Montana? Well, you are in luck Central Montana Has a Pie Trail, And It's One Sweet Ride. It will take you on a journey across the state to enjoy the best pies around! Pie A LA Road will take you on trip across Central Montana on a trail of pies!

If you don't want to travel to get some pie, Instacart revealed its most-ordered pies . . . and apple is #1, followed by pumpkin and pecan.  The most-searched pie RECIPES are:  Chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, coconut custard, and pecan pie.

There's not much else to say about 3.14 repeating pi, we are talking about the other, more DELICIOUS type of pie.

1. Apple Pie, 29%. No surprise there.  29% of all pie deliveries are APPLE pies.

2.  Pumpkin pie, 23%

3.  Pecan pie, 9%

4.  Cherry pie, 8%

5.  Lemon meringue pie, 6%

6.  Blueberry pie, 5%

7.  Chocolate pie, 4%

8.  Key lime pie, 4%

9.  Peach pie, 3%. "Other pies" what every that means also had 3%.

10.  Sweet potato pie, 2%.

Another report from Google Trends looked at the most-searched "easy" and "gourmet" pie recipes then broke it down by the favorite in each state. Montana turns out we love ourselves some pumpkin pie.  In the "easy" category "chicken pot pie" is popular in most of the Midwest and South-Central U.S., plus California.  "Shepherd's pie" is big in Florida, New York, and out West.  And a few of the northern states looked for "peanut butter pie."

In the "gourmet" category, the Central U.S., plus California, Alaska, and North Carolina are searching for the not so common "coconut custard pie."  Out West, people want some gourmet pecan . . . and the Midwest is still looking for "chicken pot pie" and "shepherd's pie."
